What was your first job, and what did it teach you about yourself?

My first job was as a babysitter, which taught me that I love building relationships with young people, and that trust is fostered collaboratively over time.

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Lizzy Stier, who hopes for a world in which all young people can explore their infinite curiosities and capabilities without barriers, is a Data Analyst at Baltimore’s Promise, supporting the Youth Grantmaking, BCYOL, and Older Youth Literacy initiatives. She started her role at Baltimore’s Promise in October 2022.

Lizzy graduated from Stanford University in 2014 with a multidisciplinary degree in Science, Technology, & Society. She then earned her MEd at UCLA, where she trained to be an elementary school teacher in urban schools. She completed her thesis on the effects of collaborative, experiential engineering projects on students’ active classroom participation.

Prior to moving to Baltimore City, Lizzy served as the research coordinator in a developmental psychology lab in Seattle, Washington, where she studied interventions to prevent stereotypes from negatively affecting girls’ motivation to pursue experiences in STEM fields. She is thrilled to combine her love of working with young people and her data analysis experience to her role at Baltimore’s Promise.

Having called several different Western states home in her recent years, Lizzy is eager to explore all that Baltimore City and the Mid-Atlantic region have to offer. She lives in Lake Walker with her husband, Seth, and their ever-growing brood of houseplants. In her free time, you’ll find Lizzy reading detective novels, cooking, hiking, or birdwatching from the kitchen window.
